Is your horse older than twenty?
Do you want the guidance of a long term plan for his retirement?
If so, please solicit a geriatric evaluation and follow up. Blood tests at this age, for example, are increasingly important because they can reveal Cushings disease, and prolonging the life of teeth is tantamount to maintaining the equine’s weight as he ages. Nutritional changes can be suggested and supplements given to address the natural arrival of joint issues in older equines.
As life time “horse people” ourselves, we have personally dealt with these issues as our own equines aged. Turning them out to pasture may sound idyllic, but it is far from ideal, and we know they deserve not just “more”, but “better”.
